OHL has been awarded the PREVER Award 2010 in the category of companies and institutions, in recognition of their history in the field of the prevention of occupational risks.

The award was collected by Carmelo Ferrandez, HR manager of the OHL Group, from the Mayor of Granada, Jose Torres Hurtado, within the framework of the XII Technical Conference on the Prevention of Occupational Risks held in Granada on 1 and 2 April organized by the General Council of Industrial Relations and Labour Studies, (CGRICT).

The General Council of Industrial Relations and Labour Studies, aware of the importance of occupational risk prevention in the world of industrial relations, in 1998 decided to create the awards and named them “PREVER”, coming from a word in the Spanish expression “better to prevent what hasn’t happened than to argue about what has happened.”

These seminars are run in collaboration with the general management teams of Labour and Occupational Health and Safety of each of Spain’s Autonomous Communities, the National Institute of Occupational Health and Safety at Work and the European Agency for Health and Safety, and have become a benchmark in the prevention of occupational risks in Spain and the European Union.

The awards consist of different categories: Individual that is granted to individuals who stand out for their achievements in the implementation of risk prevention, special awards to people who have had an important role in the field of health and safety at work; PRL / CSR to entities implementing prevention policies within CSR, companies and institutions that stand out for their achievements in the prevention of occupational hazards and finally, the category of international awards.

At the ceremony important personalities received awards, including the Secretary of State for Social Security, Octavio Granado and Dr. Franklin Jaime Vergara, the Minister of Health of Panama, who received awards in the individual and international categories respectively.

Also present to receive awards were representatives from organizations and companies such as Caja Rural de Granada, AENA, Prosegur, Dhul, Ecogas, the University of Granada, the University of Logrono and the University of Valencia, among others.

In total 42 awards were presented and the merit badges for industrial relations and labour studies.

The prevention of occupational hazards is a priority for the OHL Group, who maintains a culture of prevention based on a “zero accidents” goal, to which it devotes significant resources.
