OHL returns to Uruguay

July 13, 2011

After 15 years out of the country, OHL is returning to Uruguay, a market in which Huarte had maintained prominent activity, both in building hospitals and public buildings as well as in the construction of highways and some works in airports.

The return comes on the award of a €15.81 million contract (excluding VAT) for the execution of works within the ambitious project that the forestry company Montes del Plata has launched to build a pulp manufacturing plant in Punta Pereyra. Montes del Plata is a joint venture between Chile’s Arauco and Finland’s Stora Enso.

The works consist of the construction of the early infrastructure for the plant. For OHL, this project, executed through its local branch company, OHL Uruguay, represents the starting point for future business thanks to the Uruguan government’s policies to attract infrastructure investment.

With the addition of Uruguay, OHL now operates in 30 markets, specifically twelve countries in Europe, ten in North and South America, six in Asia, one in Africa and one in Australasia.
