OHL supports the Barcelona Declaration presented by the Spanish Green Growth Group
July 13, 2015
The OHL Group has adhered to the Barcelona Declaration presented by the Spanish Green Growth Group (GECV), promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment, to which OHL belongs. Through this declaration, the GECV is trying to create surroundings where the efficient use of natural resources, known as Green Growth, is able to generate economic growth and employment.
The initiative gathers ten recommendations, including “promote research, innovation and technology as drivers of growth”, the approval of policies to move forward towards a “low-carbon economy”, greater information and social awareness to fight climatic change, given that it is “essential for the success of a green economy in Spain”, and “revise taxation so that it supports green growth”.
The OHL Group belongs to GECV since 2014, in line with its environmental sustainability commitment, articulated through its Environment and Energy Master Plan 2011-2015. With this membership, the Group is acknowledging “the importance of examining the risks and opportunities linked to climatic change as part of its business strategy, evaluating its own carbon footprint in this context, establishing objectives to reduce emissions and publicly announcing its achievements”. Furthermore, OHL is registered at the Register of Carbon Footprints, Compensation and Carbon Dioxide Absorption Projects, sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment to encourage the calculation and reduction of the carbon footprint of Spanish organizations. The OHL Group is present on the Non-State Actor Zone for Climate Action (Nazca) Internet portal, further to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climatic Change (UNFCCC).
The GECV is a public-private platform created in 2013 and sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment, following the European Green Growth Group model. Through this initiative, synergies are sought between the Administration and the business sector, to fight against climatic change, increasing company participation, sharing information, locating business opportunities linked to green growth and supporting Spain’s presence in international forums.
