OHL takes part in an informative breakfast with the Colombian ambassador
April 10, 2015
OHL has taken part in an informative breakfast held with the Colombian Ambassador in Spain, Fernando Carrillo, last 9 April in Madrid. The event, arranged by Executive Forum España, gathered leading personalities in the institutional and business world. It was attended, amongst others, by Jesús Manuel Gracia Aldaz, State Secretary for International Cooperation and Latin America, and Pablo Gómez de Olea Bustinza, General Manager for Latin America.
Josep Piqué, second deputy chairman and CEO of OHL Group, introduced the ambassador as “a great intellectual and diplomatic politician”. Fernando Carrillo, who held office as Colombia’s Minister of Internal Affairs between 2012 and 2013 is a lawyer and associate economist of Pontificia Universidad Javeriana de Bogotá (Colombia). He promoted and led the “Séptima Papeleta” [Seventh Bill] process, which gave rise to Colombia’s current Political Constitution. He has written 14 books and 80 articles on democracy, governability and justice reform, and has also collaborated as a newspaper columnist.
In relation to OHL, Josep Piqué pointed out that Colombia, along with other member countries of the Pacific Alliance (Mexico, Peru and Chile) constitute home markets for OHL as part of its strategy for growth in the Latin American region.
With respect to Colombia, OHL has been recently awarded a contract to execute the first stage in the Parques del Río Medellín project and has been participating since 2010 in construction of the 400 MW El Quimbo hydroelectrical plant. Furthermore, in 2014, it commenced works to construct, assemble and start up a section of the Medellín tramway and signed its first concession contract in the country for Río Magdalena Toll Road, 144 km long.
Strategic Plan
Last March, OHL presented its 2015-2020 Strategic Plan with the commitment to double its turnover figure until reaching 8,000 million euros and to increase EBITDA up to 2,000 million euros.
The Strategic Plan has been based on the company’s abilities and strengths: an integrated group consisting of five divisions, with many synergies and collaboration opportunities; long-term experience in executing complex projects in all sectors; and successful international growth, with a highly diversified and valued-added portfolio.
OHL estimates that by 2020 its eight Home Markets will concentrate 85 % of its total revenues. This strategy will reinforce the Group’s presence in the American continent (Canada, United States, Mexico, Colombia, Peru and Chile), whilst maintaining its commitment to traditional markets in Europe (Spain and Eastern Europe).
