October 7, 2020
OHL has been awarded a contract in Illinois, United States, for a total of 64 million dollars (58 million euros), via its subsidiary company Judlau Contracting, Inc.
The project consists of I-57 Roadway and Bridge Widening and I-294 Ramp, on the Tri-State Tollway. As a part of Illinois Tollway’s 4-billion-dollar plan, the objective is to increase capacity, reduce congestion, and improve travel reliability on the I-294 highway.
Located at the southern end of I-294, where I-57 and I-294 meet, the project includes the construction of a new ramp to improve traffic flow from I-57 to I-294, as well as the widening of I-57 to prepare for the future construction of additional ramps at the interchange.
The major scopes of work, which Judlau will self-perform, include the construction of 8,200 cubic yards of concrete structures and superstructures for new bridges; 45,000 square feet of mechanically stabilized earth walls; 21,000 cubic yards of earth excavation with an additional 180,000 cubic yards of imported material, and the construction of new roadway bases for ramps and side streets. The project also includes Structural Steel Beam Erection, Asphalt Paving, Concrete Paving, Storm Sewer installation, and Landscaping/Erosion Control.
A successful track record in the USA
OHL is present in the USA since 2006 and, in addition to OHL USA, Inc. and Judlau, the OHL Group’s companies in the country include Community Asphalt Corp., OHL Arellano Construction Co. and OHL Building Inc. Through these companies, the Group is active in California, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Illinois, Texas and Florida.
Among the projects performed in the country, of particular note is the improvement of highway I-405 from State Route 73 to Interstate 605, with a budget of 1,2 billion dollars (1,1 billion euros), the single largest project in the company’s history in the USA. In addition, the Group has built or rehabilitated stations for the New York City Subway System, constructed an innovation center at Miami Dade College, performed civil work at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, and is currently working on the replacement of the sewage outlet pipe of the Bergen Point wastewater treatment plant in Babylon, OHL’s first project on Long Island.
Furthermore, Judlau Contracting recently has been named as ENR New York‘s 2019 Contractor of the Year. In honoring Judlau, this prestigious magazine cited the company’s “notable accomplishments”, including the Canarsie Tunnel rehabilitation, the Throgs Neck Bridge project, the Riverside Drive Viaduct rehabilitation, the Enhanced Stations Initiative and the Queens Midtown Tunnel rehabilitation project.
