OHL wins new $112 million contract to reconstruct and widen the Tri-State Tollway in Illinois

OHL, via its subsidiary, Judlau Contracting, Inc., has been awarded a new contract by the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority (Illinois Tollway) valued at $112 million (92,5 million de euros) in the Chicagoland area. This contract, which is the seventh awarded by the same owner in the past 18 months, adds to the combined value of $427 million (€350.8 million). Judlau will execute improvements along the Tri-State Tollway (I-294), as part of the client’s $4 billion (€3.6 billion) plan to increase capacity, reduce congestion, and improve travel reliability on this highway.
The scope of work for the new project encompasses roadway and bridge widening and reconstruction of I-294 from milepost 32.4. to milepost 33.5 in Cook County. Major contract features include the construction of a new collector-distributor roadway, installation of retaining and noise abatement walls, and a new drainage system. Reconstruction of two bridges spanning over Union Pacific Railroad tracks is also an important part of the required work. Other elements include replacing culvert, building detention ponds, and improving signage, lighting, erosion and sediment control, landscaping, lighting, and ITS infrastructure, among other works.
Active in the Illinois construction market since 2014, OHL has performed several key contracts for the Illinois Tollway, the Illinois Department of Transportation, and other public agencies. Some of its most noteworthy projects in the region include the $65 million (€58 million) Elgin-O’Hare Western Access Tollway (I-490) as well as the $84 million (€71.7 million) I-490/I-90 Interchange project in the Chicagoland area.
