Madrid, July 3, 2024. OHLA has obtained an important certificate awarded by SGS, in recognition of its outstanding implementation of the BIM (Building Information Modeling) methodology in accordance with the ISO 19650 standard. This certificate underlines the company’s commitment to innovation in its processes, and makes it one of the few companies in the infrastructure sector to have this distinction with a multinational scope. In this first phase, it has been formally certified in Spain and Ireland.

OHLA has been a pioneer, with experiences dating back 15 years, and is a reference in the use of BIM in the construction sector.

The company’s experience with this methodology extends to more than 100 construction projects in its three geographical areas of reference: USA, Latin America and Europe. These include major global contracts such as the National Museum of Peru (MUNA), the Américo Vespucio Oriente (AVO) highway in Chile, the project to extend the Lund-Arlov railway line in Sweden, the National Forensic Mental Health Hospital in Ireland, the Panama subway extension project and the adaptation to the Transmilenio (bus rapid transit) system of the Troncal Avenida Ciudad de Cali Tramo 1 in Bogota, which won the BIM 2022 Excellence Award in Colombia.

Boosting collaborative work and productivity

“Implementing a work methodology within an organization is a challenge, especially in a company with presence in so many locations and countries like OHLA.” said Alejandro Gonzalez, Director of SGS Iberia. On their part, Gonzalo Targhetta, Corporate Resources General Manager at OHLA, and José Pont, General Manager of Construction for Europe and Latin America at OHLA, highlighted the relevance of this methodology as a fundamental pillar of the company’s strategy.

This certification enables the company to manage its resources more effectively, reducing costs and maximizing productivity. It also fosters a collaborative and motivating work environment, where each team member feels valued and committed to common goals. Automation of repetitive tasks and improved decision-making through access to large volumes of real-time data during design, construction, and maintenance are other notable benefits.
