OHLA reaches new milestone in the U.S. on the South Corridor Bus Rapid Transit Project

OHLA, through its subsidiary OHLA USA, has achieved an important milestone on the South Corridor Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project in Miami (Florida, U.S.). The company has successful delivered ten BRT stations (out of a total of fourteen) of this corridor of more than 32 km in length, exclusively for buses.

The goal of this $368 million project for the Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works is to convert the South Corridor (South Dade Transitway) into a Bus Rapid Transit Project. 

With its participation in this project, OHLA will contribute to the improvement of public transportation in Miami-Dade County and will facilitate faster and more reliable bus service for residents and visitors alike.

Major scopes of work include:

  • 14 BRT stations fully convertible to Heavy Rail Transit (HRT).
  • Rehabilitation of existing stations (16 locations, 32 shelters).
  • Two terminal stations (Dadeland South and SW344th Street Station).
  • Transitway corridor improvements along 20 miles of exclusive transit right‐of‐way.
  • Two (2) FDOT safety improvement projects.
  • SW 168th Street Park‐and‐Ride/Garage (built by OHLA Building).
  • DTPW Construction Project: Roadway Improvements to SW 264th Street.

A key market for OHLA

OHLA opened for business in the U.S. market in 2006 and operates in New York, California, Maryland, Massachusetts, Illinois, and Florida.  The company is carrying out important contracts such as Purple Line Light Rail, in Maryland, the largest project in its portfolio, awarded in a joint venture for $2,3 million, improvements to 13 New York subway stations, valued at $577,2 million, and the I-5 North County Enhancements project in California, awarded for $379 million. In Florida, the company has recently expanded its presence with new singular building and civil works projects with a total value of $170 million. 

International recognition

In the United States, the company is ranked 13th in the top 20 contractors by sector (Transportation) and 17th in the top 50 Domestic Heavy Contractors, according to Engineering News-Record. It has recently received prestigious awards from the construction industry for its work on the I-405, one of the most important infrastructure projects in the western United States valued at $1,400 million. Among them, it recently won a Project of the Year Award for improving commutes on I-405 from the American Society of Civil Engineers – Orange County chapter.
