OHLA is returning to Brazil after securing its first construction contract in the country, where it previously participated in environmental and concession projects.

The company, in consortium, has been awarded the contract for the execution of Lot 3 of the Salvador de Bahía tramway between Aguas Claras and Piatã. The project, with a total budget of 140 million euros, was awarded by the Transport Company of the State of Bahía (CTB).

The contract focuses on the construction of a 10.5 km stretch of tramway (Light Rail Transit – LRT) that runs through the center of one of the city’s main avenues. Additionally, the project will involve the construction of eight surface stations, an interchange station with the metro, a 620-meter long viaduct with a prefabricated deck, and reinforced earth walls. The project also includes the supply and installation of energy systems (catenary and electrical substations) and urban development works.

45 Years of Presence in Latin America

OHLA boasts 45 years of presence in the region, where it carries out significant infrastructure projects similar to the recently awarded one. For example, the Medellín tramway in Colombia, which was the first modern tramway system in Latin America, extends for 4.3 km and has slopes of up to 12.5%, the steepest in the world for a tramway system.

Moreover, in the United States, the company is part of a joint venture for its largest project, the Purple Line Rail System, with a total budget exceeding 2.2 billion euros. This railway initiative involves the construction of a light rail system with a route of 26.1 km and 21 stations.

In Spain, OHLA is participating in the extension of the Granada Metro and the Northern Section of Line 3 of the Seville Metro. Specifically, OHLA is leading the consortium that will undertake almost a quarter of the Northern Section between Pino Montano and Prado de San Sebastián, including the construction of 700 meters to complete the technical branch linking the line with the workshops and depots.
