EPC Ski project, Best Project 2023 by ENR.

OHLA has received three awards from the prestigious publication Engineering News-Record (ENR) in its 2023 Global Best Projects. The selection of the winners, 31 projects from 23 different countries, was based on the challenges faced by the teams during execution, the innovative solutions used in engineering and construction, and the outstanding quality of the work.

Specifically, the EPC Ski project, part of the Follo Line, Norway’s most important transportation initiative, was named Best Project 2023 in the Railway category. OHLA also received an Award of Merit for its work at the Curicó Hospital (Chile) and another Award of Merit for the Américo Vespucio Oriente, carried out in a joint venture in Chile.

The publication also recognized the Elmont Station project in its Best Projects in New York and New Jersey in the Airport/Transit category.  OHLA, through its subsidiary Judlau, completed in 2022 the first Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) station to be built in the city in nearly 50 years.

At the request of the Norwegian State Railways, Bane NOR, and for more than NOK 3 billion (€290 million), OHLA has built a new line from the southern exit of the Follo Line tunnels to the south of the town of Ski. A total of 3.5 km of track with 13.6 km of ballasted track and 40 points. In addition, the Ski station was completely renovated and extended with six tracks, three central platforms with roofs and an underpass. OHLA was also responsible for the construction of a road bridge over the new tracks, a new bus terminal, bicycle parking facilities and the expansion of the parking area with a capacity of 350 vehicles, as well as new roads with sidewalks and technical buildings.

More than 100,000 people benefit from this infrastructure, which includes a number of measures with high sustainable value that have a positive impact on connections to Oslo, accessibility for users and environmental protection.

Awards in USA, Latin America and Europe

In the Healthcare category, OHLA will receive an Award of Merit in December for its work at the Curicó Hospital. This building has 109,152 m2 distributed over nine floors, two of which are below ground level. It is the largest and most modern health facility in the Maule Region and is protected by seismic isolators that protect it in the event of earthquakes. This infrastructure has also obtained the Sustainable Building Certification (CES), thanks to its high degree of energy autonomy and its criteria of sustainability and respect for the environment.

Américo Vespucio Oriente, considered one of Chile’s most important infrastructures, has also received an Award of Merit in the category of road works.

In 2022, four OHLA infrastructures have already been recognized in ENR’s Best Projects 2022: the Ardie R. Copas State Veterans Nursing Home (Florida), the RiverEdge Park Best Pedestrian Bridge (Aurora, Illinois), the construction of the Robert F. Kennedy (RFK) Bridge Ramp over the Harlem River (New York), the National Forensic Mental Hospital in Ireland.
