Patton Kizzire wins the OHL Classic 2017, on the PGA TOUR

U.S. golfer Patton Kizzire has won the OHL Classic at Mayakoba 2017, in the framework of the eleventh edition of this sports event, the only PGA TOUR event sponsored by and featuring the name of a Spanish company. The tournament was held between the 9th and 12th of November at the El Camaleón golf course, designed by Greg Norman and located in the Mayakoba resort, promoted by OHL Desarrollos in Mexico’s Riviera Maya.

Patton Kizzire, 31-years-old and a professional player since 2008, finished the tournament with a total of 265 strokes (-19) and four rounds of 62, 70, 66 and 67. He won by one stroke over his compatriot,  Rickie Fowler, world number 10, who at the last hole had a chance to break the tie. South Korean Si Woo Kim finished third.

Participation at the OHL Classic at Mayakoba totaled 132 players, including the champion of the eleventh edition of this PGA TOUR event, Pat Perez; the world number 10, Rickie Fowler; the five-time PGA TOUR champion, Patrick Reed; and the winner of the OHL Classic 2014, Charley Hoffman.

A pioneer in the world of golf

The OHL Classic at Mayakoba made history in the world of golf on being the first event on the PGA TOUR to be played outside of the United States and Canada.

The luxury Mayakoba resort project has become an international reference as a model of sustainable development for tourism initiatives and for its protection of the ecosystem. For this reason, it has been recognized by the World Tourism Organization (WTO) and the Rainforest Alliance, which in 2011 granted the project their top distinctions: the Ulysses and the Sustainable Standard-Setter awards, respectively. Likewise, the project has been selected to participate in the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III), the most important conference organized by the United Nations on the subject of sustainable urban development and held this year in Quito (Ecuador).
