50 MW biomass power plant

  • 50MW installed power
  • 1,330,000 hours of engineering and construction
  • 370GWh annual electricity production

EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) project for an power generation plant with processing capacity of 600,000 tons/year of forest biomass (mainly eucalyptus), with installed power of 50 megawatts (MW) and estimated annual production of 370 gigawatts per hour (GWh).

Located in San Juan del Puerto (Huelva), the plant has a biomass processing and storage installation and another for energy generation, consisting of a bubbling fluidized bed boiler (BFB) with an electrostatic precipitator, condensation steam turbine and generator, and a cooling tower.

Benefits for the community

  • Avoids the import of fossil fuels valued at 12.5 million euros/year
  • More than 950 jobs created, 40 of which are for plant O&M. The other 910 jobs represent indirect and inducted employment, of which approximately 500 are executed in rural areas
  • Avoids the emission of 330,000 tons/year of carbon dioxide (CO2) with respect to coal plants
