  • 34,000 kg pedestrian bridge
  • 600 MT capacity crane
  • 2023 Global Best Project by ENR

Construction of a new railroad station in Elmont, the first new Long Island Railroad station in nearly 50 years. The infrastructure, equipped with amenities such as free Wi-Fi, digital screens, elevators, canopies, and charging stations, has been recognized by the prestigious publication Engineering News-Record New York (ENR) as a Best Project of 2023.

The work undertaken by OHLA includes the construction of platforms, stairs, ramps, and lighting. The most significant structural element is a 34,000 kg pedestrian bridge installed in less than 50 minutes, which required the on-site installation of a Liebherr 1600 crane with a maximum capacity of 600 metric tons.

The initiative is part of the Belmont Park redevelopment project, which includes the Belmont Park racetrack and the UBS Arena, home of the New York Islanders hockey team.

Community benefits

The project complies with the accessibility requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and is in keeping with OHLA’s commitment to sustainable mobility development.
