SENER and the industrial division of Obrascón Huarte Lain will build a cogeneration plant in Mexico
April 23, 2021
Pemex Refinación has awarded the consortium formed by SENER and the industrial division of Obrascón Huarte Lain with a turnkey contract for the construction of a 35 MW cogeneration plant in its Francisco I Madero refinery, located in the state of Tamaulips (Mexico).
Pemex Refinación chose the SENER and Obrascón Huarte Lain industrial division consortium over other important engineering and construction companies based on its vast experience in the field of industrial plants, where both companies boast a significant portfolio of projects in Latin American, Europe and Africa.
The future facility will have a heavy duty 35 MW gas turbine together with a heat recovery steam generator with an afterburner linked to the gas turbine, where 115t/h of steam will be generated at a pressure of 19 kg/cm2 and 275 ºC. This steam will be used throughout the refinery and will service the new petrol and diesel desulfurization plants.
The remaining auxiliary equipment required for correct operation of the plant will include a natural gas measuring and regulation station, a plant and equipment air compression system, a recovery system for on-going draining and a cooling system with treated water, amongst others, as well as the connections with the refinery.
SENER and the industrial division of Obrascón Huarte Lain will carry out the project in full coordination, under a full joint venture agreement, in which there is no division of responsibilities between the companies.
