The Bicentenario Viaduct, Best Civil Works Project in Mexico State in 2010

The construction of the Bicentenary Viaduct on the Cuatro Caminos – Lago de Guadalupe section has received the State Civil Engineering Award, distinguishing it as the best civil works project in Mexico State in 2010.

This award is decided and presented by the Mexico State College of Civil Engineers. In the award ceremony their president Ildefonso Gonzalez Morales acknowledged that the Bicentenario Viaduct is an important part of a network of high technology motorways. He congratulated the Governor of Mexico State and the Secretariat of Communications for the way in which it’s being built and for the technology and security being used to minimise any inconvenience to citizens.

Opening Ceremony

The award was presented on 8 September following the close of the Inter-American Civil Engineering Conference, held in Toluca. It was only five days after Enrique Pena Nieto, the Mexico State Governor, officially opened the second section of the Bicentenario Viaduct, between Lomas Verdes and Lago de Guadalupe.

The Mexican Head of State reiterated that the infrastructure will benefit thousands of citizens and assured his listeners that “it is the most important project in the northwest area in the last 30 years”, adding that “all projects in which the company OHL has participated have been finished properly and on time”.

With a length of 12 km, the newly opened road has created 5,550 new employment positions directly, and 20,300 indirectly. This section joins the 5 km section that runs between Lomas Verdes and Toreo, operating since 21 September 2009. The 5 km remaining to complete the 22 km of the first phase are due to be finished in the last quarter of this year.
