The new Gottwald crane with make load transfers at TCVAL more efficient

July 6, 2015

The second Gottwald crane acquired by Terminal Cerros de Valparaíso (TCVAL) began operating in early June and will help achieve high-efficiency standards in load transfers and acoustics, helping reduce CO2 emissions during port operations.

The investment made will shorten the stay of ships in the port, will increase the number of vessels serviced and will mobilize new loads, consequently increasing the breakwater’s capacity.

The Gottwald crane installed is a two-cable model with a scope of 50 m, able to lift up to 100 tons at a height of 47 m. It is cataloged as Green Range Gottwald and is equipped to achieve high standards of acoustic efficiency, with an earth wiring connection, consequently reducing CO2 emissions into the air as much as possible in emergency situations.

TCVAL’s investment commitment is part of a policy based on good operating performance. During the first half of 2015, the terminal has transferred a total of 923,539 tons, representing a 23 % increase over the same period the previous year. Iron represented 59 % of all loads, followed by 13 % consisting of fruits and vegetables.
