OHLA’s Sudoměřice-Votice project in the Czech Republic awarded at the Railway Construction 2022 competition
May 8, 2023
The railway modernization project for the Sudoměřice-Votice line, which OHLA ZS is carrying out in the Czech Republic, has been awarded at the Railway Construction 2022 competition, granted by the state railway administration Správa železnic, in the Line Construction category.
The award recognizes the contribution of the project, one of the most important investments in rail infrastructure recently made in the country, to increase the speed, fluidity, comfort and safety of transportation in the region.
The initiative, which includes the construction of a second track, two new tunnels and a railroad station, among other actions, has increased the speed of trains to 200 km/h, which will reduce travel times for express trains between Prague and Tábor to one hour.
This will be possible, among other things, thanks to the construction with own resources of the Mezno and Deboreč tunnels of 840 and 660 meters in length, respectively, as well as the construction of new bridges and stops. It has also been necessary to shorten the route of the track, which will have a new route two kilometers shorter than the original one, from 19.2 km to 17.2 km.
A benchmark in the railway industry
This contract, which will be completed during the course of this year, is in addition to others that the company is executing in the Czech Republic, where it has a 70-year track record. These include the electrification of the railway section between the towns of Strelice and Zastávka, valued at 120 million euros.
OHLA is also involved in major sustainable mobility projects such as the reconstruction work on the Vsetín railroad station, the reconstruction of the double line of the Adamov-Blansko section, the electrification and modernization of the Libina-Uničov line and the reconstruction of the railway bridge over the Svitava River, worth more than €300 million.
