Juan-Miguel Villar Mir participated in the opening of the Community of Madrid’s Day of the Entrepreneur

March 30, 2011

Juan-Miguel Villar Mir, president of the Villar Mir Group, has participated in the opening act of the Community of Madrid’s Day of the Entrepreneur, an act in which he gave a lecture entitled “The keys to business management”.

The Day of the Entrepreneur, which this year celebrated its sixth year under the slogan “Embark, begin your history”, was inaugurated by the Minister of Employment, Women and Immigration of the Community of Madrid, Paloma Adrados, the Minister of Economy and Finance, Antonio Beteta, and President of the Chamber of Commerce of Madrid, of the Fundacion Universidad-Empresa (FUE) and the Confederacion Empresarial de Madrid-CEOE, Arturo Fernandez.

The president of the Villar Mir Group said in his speech that Madrid “is an ideal place to settle and grow as an entrepreneur” and pointed out that the region has gained a privileged position as a business hub for companies operating globally and serves as a bridge between Europe, Latin America and Africa.

In this regard he indicated that from an economic standpoint, Madrid is a leader in Spain. In 2010, it led the growth of the country after growing seven tenths, while the Spanish economy dropped 0.1%. After 15 months of improvements, as Juan-Miguel Villar Mir explained, “Madrid is already providing one of every five euros of Spanish economic activity.”

In his speech, the president of the Villar Mir Group recalled the key role of entrepreneurs in driving growth, saying that “the concern about being effective in their activities must be a constant one in the life of entrepreneurs and professionals, because they are expected to do their work accurately and safely and successfully.”

Business Management

Focused on corporate governance, Juan-Miguel Villar Mir said that the sequence of ideas for good management is always the same “objectives, organization and people.”

He specified that “the first thing is to always know what we want, what goals we want to achieve in the short, medium and long term, within a policy or strategy of the company,” because in his opinion, “a company can be formed initially with neither money nor people, as those are available in the market, but one cannot be formed or managed without goals.”

Within the scope of business, the chairman of the Villar Mir Group wanted to highlight to the audience that “in the economy of a country there are no good sectors or bad sectors. Just as there are no good companies or bad companies. There are simply well-managed and poorly managed companies. In all sectors. The well-run win and the badly managed lose. In all situations. “

In this context he noted that “as entrepreneurs and managers must be hard, from each and every one of us a constant effort of work and improvement is required to manage better each day, with honesty, humility and austerity.”

Referring to the current economic plight, Juan-Miguel Villar Mir said that “in more changeable and uncertain economic climates, the opportunities for efficient companies will always be greater. That is because it is precisely in times of difficulty when the difference between good and bad management is most appreciated.”
