Mayakoba distinguished with the Recognition of Best Practices of Corporate Social Responsibility 2017

November 7, 2017

The Mayakoba tourist complex, developed by OHL in the Riviera Maya, has obtained the “Recognition of Best Corporate Social Responsibility Practices 2017” for its programs Atletas Mayakoba and Semillero Mayakoba, focused on the identification and promotion of local sports talent. Both initiatives, promoted since 2015 by Volunteers from OHL Desarrollos-Mayakoba, are distinguished by being inclusive, that is, they promote sports among people with and without disabilities.

The award, granted by the Mexican Center for Philanthropy (CEMEFI), the Alliance for Corporate Social Responsibility in Mexico (AliaRSE) and Forum Empresa, annually distinguishes companies that stand out, through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs, for their connection with the community.

Currently, the Atletas Mayakoba and Semillero Mayakoba programs benefit five adults and ten adolescents, respectively. They include Marcos Velázquez, blind athlete Full Ironman in The Woodlands, in Texas (USA); Silvina Merino, world swimming sub champion Oceanman Benidorm (Spain); Rubén Grande, four times Ironman KonaHawaii, Cozumel and Cabo San Lucas and fifteen times half Ironman; Damian Arce, winner of the National Table Tennis Championship and classified in the World Cup in Germany, and the chess player Hiromi Carrillo, national champion of Mexico, among others.

Mayakoba is a high-level tourist development that incorporates in its first phase (250 ha) five luxury hotels, four of them in operation: Rosewood, Banyan Tree, Fairmont and Andaz. In addition, the complex includes the residential development Fairmont Heritage Place, currently under development, and the El Camaleón golf course, which has made history by hosting the first PGA Tour event held outside the US and Canada. The second phase of the project is Ciudad Mayakoba (400 ha), also in the development phase, which includes housing, shopping and leisure areas.
