OHL adheres to the Spanish Green Growth Group, sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment

November 27, 2014

Last 25 November, the I Forum of the Spanish Green Growth Group was held. This initiative has been sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment, further to the Declaration of Adhesion to the Spanish Green Growth Group, and aims to generate synergies between the Administration and the business sector in order to fight climatic change.

The Declaration of Adhesion to the Spanish Green Growth Group is based on the European Green Growth Group model. Thanks to this adhesion, OHL undertakes to collaborate in public-private actions and to back up the Government when implementing measures to encourage environmental preservation. The Group, with its signature, is recognizing “the importance of considering risks and opportunities related to climatic change, as part of its business strategy, in order to evaluate its own carbon print in this context, to establish objectives for lower emissions and to provide public information on its achievements”.

This initiative is highlighting Spain’s “relevant and proactive role” in negotiations to be held on the 2030 framework for climate and energy policies of the EU. It also constitutes a roadmap towards a low-carbon economy, as reflected in the following measures based on the objectives established at the last European Council convened last October:

  • A minimum 40 % reduction in the emission of greenhouse gas by 2030, with respect to 1990 levels
  • Increase in renewable energy sources, until reaching 27 % of the final energy consumed in Europe by 2030.
  • 27 % improvement in energy efficiency by 2030, with respect to existing trends.

As a result, these objectives would consolidate a more innovating and competitive European economy, with greater security and independence in the energy sector.

This is the first Forum of the Spanish Green Growth Group held since the Spanish version of this initiative was created, which arose in 2013 as part of the European Union with the aim of increasing company participation, sharing information, locating opportunities and backing up Spain’s presence in international forums.
