OHLA charts the right path to decarbonization through SBTi climate initiative

December 13, 2022

OHLA, as part of its decarbonization program, has committed to the Science Based Targets (SBTi) initiative, a joint project of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute and WWF that helps companies set science-based climate change strategies to limit global temperature rise. The goal of this initiative is to accelerate action by companies worldwide to halve greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

This tool becomes a key part of the company’s strategy to set corporate decarbonization targets that are sufficiently ambitious and aligned with the latest climate science. Specifically, the company is committed to establishing near-term emissions reductions across the company in line with climate science. On the one hand, it has proposed to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions (those generated by its own activity) by 46% by 2031 compared to the base year 2021, and on the other, to reduce the intensity of Scope 3 emissions (those that come from the value chain and are not under the company’s control) by 55% in 2031 compared to 2021.

Sustainability as an axis of value creation

Adherence to this initiative is part of OHLA’s 2022-2024 Sustainability Plan. Committing to the STBi initiative is one of the most relevant milestones of its roadmap. The company has also obtained the highest rating in the GRESB 2022 sustainability index, positioning itself as a global leader in the infrastructure sector.

On the other hand, OHLA continues to join efforts to promote global transformation and accelerate the pace of achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In addition, the company is a voluntary member of national and international initiatives such as the Spanish Network of the United Nations Global Compact, is a promoter and member of the Spanish Business Council for Sustainable Development of Forética, and is a member of the New Deal for Europe manifesto and the CEO Alliance for Diversity.
