  • +17,000 restored ornamental pieces
  • 15,000 m2 luxury shopping center
  • 1st Four Seasons hotel in Spain
  • 400 parking spaces

The project has involved the creation of 5,000 jobs and the restoration of more than 17,000 ornamental pieces of high heritage value, most of which are protected. OHLA was responsible for the design, construction and operation of the complex, which houses the first Four Seasons hotel in Spain, 22 Branded Residences with hotel services, a parking lot with 400 parking spaces, an exclusive shopping center, Galería Canalejas, which brings together some of the most exclusive international luxury firms in the world and Food Hall, one of the most unique gastronomic offers in Spain, has an area of more than 4,000 square meters.

Sustainable urban development

The project, a benchmark in urban regeneration, has brought about a change in the city’s physiognomy and responds to citizens’ demand to live in accessible and sustainable environments. Thus, a reconversion has been carried out at the confluence of Sevilla and Alcalá streets, Carrera de San Jerónimo and Plaza de Canalejas in the Spanish capital, which has made it possible to gain space for pedestrians, while facilitating the management and regulation of public transport on the surface. The street furniture has also been renovated and new lighting has been installed in homage to the street lamps that illuminated this area of Madrid at the end of the 19th century.

Leed Gold Certification

As part of OHLA’s sustainable construction strategy, Centro Canalejas Madrid has achieved LEED® Gold Certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), developed by the US Green Building Council (USGBC). The project has followed the LEED® for New Construction and Major Renovations (LEEDNC) program for new construction or major renovations, which evaluates efficiency both in the architectural and technical installations design phase, as well as in the construction, commissioning and use phase. An example of this is the roof, where the ventilation and cooling systems are located.

The complex also uses alternative energies, such as geothermal energy, meets the highest indoor environmental quality standards, consumes water responsibly and has charging areas for electric vehicles and bicycle parking.
