National Forensic Mental Health Service in Ireland.

The National Forensic Mental Health Service hospital has seen its excellence recognized with the achievement of four new awards at the twenty-fifth edition of the prestigious Building Better Healthcare Awards 2023, held in London. These awards recognize the work of people and the application of innovation in sectors linked to the healthcare field.

The project carried out by OHLA and designed by Scott Tallon Walker Architects in collaboration with Medical Architecture, has been the winner in three of the categories: Best International Health Center, Grand Prize for Design and Patient’s Choice Award, the latter, shared with five other projects. Added to these awards is a special mention in the category of Best External Environment Project.

The National Forensic Mental Health Service hospital is located north of Dublin, in Ireland, and is integrated into nature, in a safe and comfortable environment designed for the treatment and recovery of people with mental illnesses. The complex – whose design emulates a university campus – occupies more than 24,000 m2 spread over 16 hectares and is distributed in ten buildings that house 170 beds and services in Psychology, Psychiatry and Occupational and Social Therapy, among other specialties.

The project is also an example of innovation since the BIM methodology has been followed in its design; and is also a benchmark in sustainability, confirmed by having achieved the BREEAM Excellent Certification.

Internationally awarded

The recognitions achieved in the Building Better Healthcare Awards 2023 are added to other highly prestigious ones, such as the Award Merit 2022, by the American publication Engineering News-Record (ENR). The project has also been awarded the Albert Serratosa City and Territory Award, in the category of Best Work Outside Spain, awarded by the Caminos Foundation.
